Cookies and Browser Storage

What these technologies do

Cookies are small pieces of information that a website can ask your browser to retain and send with later requests. LocalStorage and sessionStorage are separate browser facilities that can keep information on a device. These technologies have different uses and are not the same as downloading a file or copying text to a clipboard.

The editorial site’s application code

The HTML, CSS and JavaScript for this reading room do not set cookies, use localStorage or sessionStorage, or include advertising and analytics trackers. Navigation state and scroll-reveal effects are handled in temporary page memory. The correspondence composer also keeps its working text in page memory rather than saving a draft to site storage.

Ordinary browser caching may retain site files to make later visits faster. Hosting or security infrastructure can separately process request information; see the privacy notice for the distinction between browser storage and server-side processing. Any separately provided site-wide preference controls should be read alongside their own storage information.

External references

Source links lead to independent websites. We do not embed their pages, fonts or scripts in the editorial guides. When you follow a source link, that website may use its own cookies or other technologies. Review its notice and settings directly.

Your browser choices

You can inspect site data, clear cached resources and restrict cookies through browser settings. Menu names vary by browser and device. Blocking cookies does not prevent reading these static guides. Disabling JavaScript leaves the editorial text available but disables the mobile menu interaction, scroll enhancements and correspondence composer; direct email and footer reading links remain available.

Changes and questions

If optional storage-based features are introduced, their purposes and any applicable consent choices should be explained before non-essential storage is used. Questions about this notice can be sent to [email protected].
